Asian American & Diaspora Psychology: Mental Health, Microaggressions, and the Model Minority Myth

This course serves as an introductory exploration into the psychological experiences of Asian American and diaspora individuals, families, and communities. It offers a broad overview of the historical, sociopolitical, and cultural influences that shape the behavior and well-being of this vastly diverse population. Drawing upon psychological theories and empirical research as guiding frameworks, the course will consider the values and meanings shaped by culture, ethnicity, and race that affect cognition, emotion, development, self-concept, and relationships that ultimately impact individual and collective mental health and well-being.
