After more than a decade of student activism for an Asian American Studies Program at Duke, the University has officially launched the program. The Asian American Studies Working Group officially announced the creation of the program with a post on its Facebook page and formal launch of its website April 27. The Asian American Studies Program at Duke is proud to announce its formal launch on April 27, 2018. Ryanson Alessandro Ku, a PhD from the University of California at Irvine (2017), will be teaching a new course in Asian American Studies at Duke this fall. Ku, who holds his doctorate in Comparative Literature works on critical theory; postcolonial, race, class, and sexuality studies; and Asian/Filipino/American literature. Esther Kim Lee, Ph.D. — a professor of theater history who also writes about Asian American theater, Korean diaspora theater, and globalization and theater — is joining Duke University’s Theater Department.
